The playful instrumental Swedish DIY act The Second Hand Orchestra is back! ”Colors" is their follow up to the debut album that quickly sold out and was labelled as "If the Penguin Café Orchestra would’ve used old rhythm-boxes and recorded rough demos influenced by Moondog” . Like the debut album the 12 tracks here all sound like homemade alternative themes to unknown tv-series. Or like sketches found on an old reel to reel machine. Leading up to ”Colors” was the three digital ep’s that Second Hand Orchestra have been releasing for the last year. Now finally packed in all together, this album is pure delight.
The cover artworkby US artist Nat Russell is like the cover for a coloring book. All the vinyl copies have individually hand-colored covers.

With an unpredictable ever-changing line-up the heartfelt compositions are graced by all sorts of rare instruments like bass harmonicas, indian banjo’s and odd trombones and violins. The orchestra is led by Karl Jonas Winqvist (ex first floor power, blood music, the hope singers) who also produce other artists now and then and also runs the label sing a song fighter. He says that this orchestra is not afraid of the cracks or blue notes, as that is a natural part of life. He also says that we can all be in the Second Hand Orchestra if we need and/or want to. For fans of Pascal Comelade, Yann Tiersen,Maher Shalal Hash Baz, 1900 and Penguin Café Orchestra.

All compositions except ”rainbow-ow-ow” recorded mostly live at the old analogue studio Up and Running by Tom Hakava in Stockholm, Sweden. Mixing also.
”Rainbow-ow-ow” recorded and mixed at Cobra Studio by Christian Gabel. Exactly when it all took place is hard to say. Some parts of some of these tracks might have been recorded as early as in 2011.Tracks then laying around unmixed on tapes. For a long time. To be able to have some sort of control we marked them with different colors. Then Fredrik Swahn saved it all by final mixing and sorting out things at his studio in Solna in 2017. Henrik Sunbring did this too at his studio Helter Skelter plus took care of the mastering in 2018.
Artwork and design for this album was done by Nathaniel Russell.

All music written and arranged by Karl Jonas Winqvist. Except ”Coral in reverse” and ”Improvised funeral for Orange” which was improvised and arranged by The Second Hand Orchestra.
